“FourFiveSeconds” by Rihanna, Kanye West and Sir Paul McCartney

I decided to write my very first post on this blog about what has been one of the most talked about topic in the music world in the last couple of days – Sir Paul McCartney, Kanye West and Rihanna pulled Beyonce and dropped a surprise track named “FourFiveSeconds”.

We all know Rihanna as someone who releases new music basically every other Saturday. Well, from 2005 to 2012, she had an album out every single year, besides in 2008. That’s seven albums in eight years. As phenomenal as it is, we all got used to it and even though I myself remember thinking that I personally need a little break from her (mostly, because for me the last few albums showed less development than I think she’s capable of), then now, after almost three years, life seems pretty Rihannaless and everyone’s ready for some new material from her. Everyone’s anxiously waiting, to be quite honest! So there have been rumours of her being back in the studio for quite some time now and seems that it has all had some truth in it. Both her and Kanye are getting ready to release their new albums this year, so that particular song gives a reason to be double excited and impressed. Sir Paul McCartney is a real added treat that I’m not even sure we deserve to get to hear on a new track for the second time in a moth already.

It’s not the first time Rihanna and Kanye have worked together and Kanye and Sir Paul just recently released a beautiful song “Only One”, – dedicated to West’s daughter – but it is, indeed, the first time these three genius’ have collaborated all together.
Last week Kanye made an appereance at the iHeartMedia Music Summit and played a short snippet of that song, so I’m really happy they decided to release the song – that will probably make both his and hers upcoming albums – that soon after the world got a little taste.

The song itself is acoustic and that alone is a huge surprise already, considering that it pretty much starts Rihanna’s new album cycle, so what to expect from the rest of it? You can hear some folk and country influences, which is always nice on a pop song. Even though overall “Four Five Seconds” follows a pretty basic formula, it is one of a kind on the radio right now and its very minimal production, instrumentation that consists just an acoustic guitar, cello and an organ; vocals and Kanye and Rihanna’s new direction has got mostly positive reviews and I happily, genuinely, join that club. What I most like about this song is the tone in Rihanna’s voice that you don’t hear from her too often. That sensitive, vulnerable, unique squeak tone, that she controls like a master. Can’t wait to hear her sing that live.

I, myself have pressed the replay button for quite a few times already. The song is available on iTunes. Go get it, and make your ears happy! (https://itunes.apple.com/ee/album/fourfiveseconds-single/id961379374?ign-mpt=uo%3D4)
